are some pictures from my visit to Thailand during 1995/96 :
Sukhothai
Here I am in the city of Sukhothai, the ancient capital during the
13th century before it was moved to the city Authaya. The name Sukhothai
means 'rising of happiness'. This was taken in the historical park which
was really quite a beautiful place. The statue in the background is King
Ramkhamhaeng who is believed to have given the Thais the Thai script which
we see today in Thailand. However a recent discovery in Wiang Kum Kam in
Chiang Mai province has found over 1300 inscribed stone slabs and other
pieces. This major archaeological discovery indicates that the Thai script
predates King Ramkhamhaeng's inscription by at least 100 years. Historical
linguists believe that Thai script was developed from Mon script with some
khmer modifications to it.

Here I am again at Sukhothai historical park in Thailand.
Golden Triangle
Probably one of Thailands most notourus places is this one, the Golden
Triangle in Chain Rai province. I am standing in the town of Sop Ruak in
Thailand, while the main river behind me and to my left is the Mekong River
(Mae Nam Khong). Laos is also too my left. Over my right shoulder is Burma.
Those building that you can see in Burma are part of the Golden Triangle
Paradise Resort which was never completed. It was to be a complete resort
with golf course, casino, hospital, hotel, and helipad! However now it just
sits there unfinished.
Me
This is me about to eat some traditional Northen Thai cooking in the
city of Chiang Mai of Thailand.
